San Antonio - Jan 05

January was a month of getting back into the swing of things after a great trip home to Nebraska. The highlights of the month were the Army All-American Bowl held at the Alamodome here in SA, John’s promotion to Captain, and John winning the 2004 Company Grade Officer of the Year for the Air Force Manpower Agency (where he works).

The Army All-American Bowl is a showcase of some of the top high school football athletes in the country. Eleven new Huskers were there, so we decided to go, decked out in Husker gear, to show our support. The highlight was high school running back sensation Marlon Lucky breaking free for a 23-yard touchdown. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come for the “Big Red.” There was a whole section of Husker fans in attendance; we were, by far, the most well represented school. It was a fun experience.

On January 17th John was promoted to Captain. We had a small ceremony in one of AFMA’s conference rooms with a little party afterwards. It’s quite hard to believe that he’s a Capt, when less than ten years ago the most that he knew about the military was from Top Gun and A Few Good Men. As it turns out, his job resembles Office Space more than anything else. J Also in January, John was given a tremendous honor by receiving the 2004 CGO of the Year for AFMA. General Sabol was in town from the Pentagon and presented John with the award.

We hope you are all doing great. Please drop us a line when you get a chance: johnandsandie@satx.rr.com.

All our best,

John & Sandie
